About The Blankets

Blankets have been in use by Native Americans long before the "White Man" ever arrived. Most were made from pelts, but some were woven using wild cotton and coloured using natural dyes.Pendleton Woolen Mills have long been associated with Native Americans and to this day their Indian Robes and Shawls are still woven from the finest fleece wool. Whenever you see a Native American wrapped in a ceremonial it is almost certain to be a Pendleton.
They are also great for use as covers in bedrooms, caravans and motorhomes. We have them folded and draped over our chair backs in the lounge should it get chilly.

The Chief Joseph blanket continues to be one of the most popular designs for over eight decades. It celebrates the memory of the Northwest's greatest Nez Perce warrior, the heroic Chief Joseph. Chief Joseph's Nez Perce name was "Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kert", which translates to Thunder Rolling Down Hill. The Chief Joseph blanket is the oldest, traditional blanket produced by Pendleton® Woolen Mills. Its design concept is balanced with native arrows and arrowheads that are symbols of bravery and pointing in all four directions of Mother-Earth.

Pendleton Code Talker Blanket

Shortly after Pearl Harbor, Navajo Marines created a unique code using words from their native tongue to describe complex military equipment and operations. This code was disseminated to about 500 Navajo "Codetalkers". Their dedication proved dcritical in the Pacific Theatre battles of the War, as Japanese forces were unable to crack the code, ultimately leading to the Allied victory in the Pacific Theatre.
This robe honours those men.
