Johns Text John Scotney has been painting and drawing since he could hold a pencil and over the years has become well known for his fine Pencil work . One man shows have been held in England, Wales, Germany and Cyprus and many of his drawings have been produced as both open and limited edition prints. He has received commissions from many sources including Embassies, Hotels, private residence portraits and Governmental departments. John was born in 1943 and after leaving school he worked on the railway for a few years and then joined the Military (Royal Air Force) in 1962, serving for 27 years working in North Africa, Cyprus and Germany. He fortunately found time to carry on painting and drawing holding successful exhibitions in most theatres he served in. His military travels allowed him the opportunity for his work to be viewed by a wider variety of collectors, and he is thrilled that it is collected by people from all walks of life and from many different corners of the world.
Upon retirement from the military John and his wife Marjorie opened their own Framing and Fine Art Gallery on the island of Anglesey in Wales. The gallery became known for its high framing standards and framed work for presentation to HM The Queen, HM The Queen Mother, and many other notables It was during this period they became involved with Native American Crafts & Imports.
After 15 years in the gallery and a new lease looming they retired from the High Street premises in 2003. This enabled them to concentrate fully on the import of Native American Crafts and Jewellery which is sold through this popular website and at various festivals and shows around the UK. They visit the USA at least once a year to handpick new stock
John has had success in America showing a number of times at the Weems Art Fest. This is a juried Art show held in the State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque and the proceedes provide support for many local deserving charities. The Artfest is run by the dedicated staff of the Weems Gallery in Albuquerque.
Working in black and white with emphasis in the finer detailed pencilwork imparts a heavy strain on the eyes. Now, with finger joints complaining john is leaning more towards seascape painting when time allows. All work shown below is original work. All are mounted using conservation acid-free mountboards/mats. The size shown is the overall mount/mat size.
